REFUGEE WEEK CELEBRATIONS

2018

This year we have celebrated Refugee Week with lots of events.

The first one was in collaboration with the Woolwich Common Community Centre and the visitors of the Greenwich Migrant Hub.

Visitors made a wonderful tree as part of My Creative Skills sessions funded by Near Neighbours Church Urban Fund.

Our hands can become everything we want and can contain messages of hopes, equality, rights, fairness, love and gratefulness. Together for our shared future. The session was really inspiring and relaxing.

The second event took place at the Greenwich West Community and Arts Centre. We had so much fun playing games with the children, dancing, learning and trying on different fashion styles, doing a group art activity, eating food from our different cultures and visiting the beautiful exhibition of our art work in the Gwest gallery. Thanks to Near Neighbours and Greenwichwest Community and Arts Centre support, all the wonderful ladies in the group, the amazing CG team, the guests who came to visit us we made justice to a Refugee week celebration about welcome, friendship, humanity, warmth, laughter and sharing.

The final event of Refugee Week 2018 and Beyond Borders Festival, was a night where the whole community coul come together, meet their neighbours, have a dance and enjoy live music from around the world. In the beatiful surroundings of Burgess Park we had craft activities and stalls from amazing local community organizations. It was organized in partnership with Theatre Deli.

2017

We celebrated Refugee week this year by doing an art workshop at the Woolwich Common Community Centre with the visitors of the Greenwich Migrant Hub.

The women made beautiful flowers and the session was really inspiring and relaxing.

The tree stayed at the WCCC for a month and is now up for display at the Greenwich West. My Creative Skills participants also made their own flowers to add to the tree once it got to the new residency.

The tree is now full of life, colours and positive messages for our shared future.
